Sun 20 Questions: Zander the Zebra | #hospice | #elderly | #seniors
Zander the Zebra is the spokesanimal for Leading Edge Physio’s RunWild fundraiser, featuring races designed for every level of runner and walker. It includes a virtual 5K, 10K, Half Marathon and the WildOnes Kids MaraFun 1.2K. Proceeds from the June 12-13 event will go to the Zebra Child Protection Centre, the St. Albert Seniors Association and the Pilgrims Hospice Society.
It’s Sunday morning, what are you having for breakfast?
Like any zebra, I love a good leaf and grass scramble (stems on the side). I tried paleo but it just wasn’t for me.
If you did not do what you do for a living, what would you be?
A hockey referee. I love their uniforms!
Who’s your hero?
If you are registered for RunWild 2021, then it’s YOU.
Last book you couldn’t put down?
My hooves make picking up books difficult in the first place, but I do have a subscription to National Geographic to keep tabs on my friends and family back home.
Who was your childhood celebrity crush?
Usain Bolt. Still is.
What’s playing in your iPod (CD, cassette, or eight-track) right now?
Anything that gets me up and moving.
If you could see one concert, what would it be?
The White Stripes.
What’s the best thing about Edmonton?
The people! And the beautiful river valley trails I can run wild on all year round.
What’s your weirdest habit?
That I stand on 2 feet instead of all 4. They think it’s genetic.
What’s your biggest pet peeve?
When people think they can’t sign up for a RunWild if they aren’t a “runner.” We love walkers too! There are distances for every level. Disclaimer: No matter how slow you run you are still a runner!
What’s your fast-food guilty pleasure?
Gazelles are pretty fast, but I am an herbivore. So I have to say McDonalds. Guilty as charged.
What was your most embarrassing moment?
When I was doing an interview and almost forgot to mention WHY RunWild needs you to sign up. We want to raise more money than ever for our 3 deserving charities: the Zebra Child Protection Centre (the reason I became the Runwild mascot!), the St. Albert Seniors Association, and the Pilgrims Hospice Society.
Which person, alive or dead, would you like to have dinner with?
Steve Irwin. I so miss his funny little accent and I so admire his work in Wildlife Conservation
What’s your favourite vacation destination?
Africa, to visit my family!
What’s your favourite TV show?
I think the majority of the herd here will agree when I say The Office is an all time favourite, but lately I am all about Ted Lasso. Be a goldfish (even if you are a zebra).
What’s your dream car?
Anything that goes really fast, with racing stripes.
If you could have one superpower what would it be?
To be able to tell the entire world to sign up for RunWild.
What’s the one thing you haven’t done that you’d love to do?
Tell the entire world to sign up for RunWild.
If we’re buying, you’re having…
Exotic greens flavoured with Saffron. Did you know it is the most expensive spice in the world?
What are your words to live by?
When your legs get tired, run with your heart.
