Steubenville levies are important | News, Sports, Jobs | #elderly | #seniors | #execrise
To the editor:
As president of the Steubenville Baseball Association, I am proud to say that we have more than 230 children playing in the league this year.
Recreation and sports activities play an important role in our community and in the healthy development of young people. That is why I am asking our community to support Issues 1 and 2, Steubenville’s 0.7 percent and 0.3 percent income tax levies that are up for renewal. These issues are renewals only and will not raise taxes for anyone. Part of the renewal funds go toward maintenance and improvement of the city’s ball fields, playgrounds, walking trails and parks.
I have had a great experience working with city officials to update and maintain the ballfields. I believe that with good management and a willing city workforce, we can continue the work of bringing pride back to our city parks. Our facilities are areas of our town that we should be proud of. Belleview Park, Beatty Park and Jim Wood Park are places where many residents go to exercise and relax. Playgrounds are filled with playing children, shelter houses are often venues for family barbecues and birthday parties. The tennis courts are used daily, ballfields are busy in the spring and the free splash pad is at capacity during the summer.
Our parks and recreation are a reflection of where we are as a community. I believe this community is strong, proud and wants to see our children do well. In order for this to happen, children, families and the elderly have to have well-maintained, safe spaces to relax, exercise and play.
Please consider voting yes on May 4 to renew Issues 1 and 2. These are renewals only — not new taxes.
Thank you for your consideration and support.
