Lifespace Communities appoints Kenneth Poinsette chief information officer

Kenneth Poinsette has been appointed chief information officer at West Des Moines, IA-based Lifespace Communities. He comes to the position with more than 25 years of extensive experience.

Poinsette earned his Bachelor of Science degree from the United States Military Academy at West Point and served in the U.S. Army. He earned his MBA from Emory University and a Master of Science degree from Bowie State University.

Presbyterian SeniorCare Network CEO Paul Winkler to retire; James Pieffer to succeed him

Paul Winkler, president and CEO of Pittsburgh-based Presbyterian SeniorCare Network, plans to retire later this year, the not-for-profit organization announced Monday. Current Vice President James Pieffer is expected to be named his successor, effective Sept. 1, upon a May 14 vote of the board. 

Winkler and Pieffer have worked in tandem for almost 34 years. Winkler began his career with the organization in 1987 as a nursing home administrator, serving first as senior vice president and chief operating officer and then becoming president and CEO in 1999.

Pieffer has been with Presbyterian SeniorCare Network since seeking an administrative fellowship almost 36 years ago after completing the health administration program at the University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public Health. Since then, he has served in a variety of senior leadership capacities, including senior vice president of the organization and president of its real estate affiliate. Pieffer is known especially for his work in assisted living, housing with services and project development. 

The 90-year-old Presbyterian SeniorCare Network serves more than 6,500 older adults at 56 senior living communities and skilled nursing facilities as well as through home- and community-based services across 10 Western Pennsylvania counties.

Genesis Healthcare names Harry Wilson CEO

Turnaround specialist Harry Wilson has been appointed as CEO of Kennett Square, PA-based Genesis Healthcare. He succeeds Robert “Bob” H. Fish, who will remain a member of the board.

Wilson also will join the company’s board of directors, succeeding James McKeon. Additionally, the company announced that David Harrington has been appointed executive chairman.

Wilson’s focus will be on immediately developing and executing a turnaround plan for Genesis while building a foundation for future innovation and growth as a national leader in eldercare.

Genesis credited Wilson with leading some of the most complicated and successful U.S. restructurings of the past decade as an investor, adviser or director. He spent his early career in the financial services sector, primarily at The Blackstone Group and Silver Point Capital, where he was a partner, after starting his career at Goldman, Sachs & Co and Clayton, Dubilier & Rice. Over time, Wilson became focused on transformational work and accepted a senior role on the U.S. Auto Task Force, where he led the restructuring of General Motors on behalf of the U.S. Treasury. 

In early 2011, Wilson founded MAEVA Group as a platform to pursue similar transformational work. Since founding MAEVA, he and his colleagues have played roles with companies ranging from YRC Worldwide to Sotheby’s to Visteon, in all cases working to create value for stakeholders and to reposition each company for long-term success. Several MAEVA colleagues will join Wilson at Genesis for the early stages of the turnaround.

Wilson holds an undergraduate degree in government from Harvard College and an MBA degree from Harvard Business School.

Genesis HealthCare is a holding company with subsidiaries that, on a combined basis, provide services to skilled nursing facilities and senior living communities. The company also specializes in contract rehabilitation therapy, respiratory therapy, physician services, staffing services and accountable care.

English Meadows Senior Living hires Robert Williams as CFO

Robert “Rob” Williams has been hired as chief financial officer of Blacksburg, VA-based English Meadows Senior Living. He also will serve on the executive committee.

Williams began his career in the financial services industry before spending the past 20 years in financial management and leadership roles at the Central Intelligence Agency and Deloitte Consulting in Northern Virginia. He has extensive experience in strategic planning, continuous process improvement, data analytics, budgeting and forecasting, financial analysis and IT system implementation.

Williams has built cross-functional partnerships and improved the long-term financial sustainability across a broad spectrum of organizations in the United States and abroad. He is not a stranger to the senior living industry; growing up in Roanoke, VA, he routinely worked in multiple communities owned and operated by his father, Robert Williams, gaining caregiver experience.

Williams has an undergraduate degree in finance from Radford University and an MBA degree from Loyola University Maryland. He also has a top secret/sensitive compartmented information clearance, and certificates for project management professional and technology business management executive. He is pursuing a financial modeling and valuation analyst certification and plans to pursue an MBA in accounting.

American House welcomes Mary Anderson as chief human resources officer

Mary Anderson has been hired as chief human resources officer at Southfield, MI-based American House Senior Living Communities. She also will serve as the chief human resources officer for affiliated companies REDICO and Continuum Services.

In her new role, Anderson is responsible for creating and implementing human resource strategies, policies and programs across American House’s portfolio of more than 50 communities in five states.

Anderson has 32 years of experience in the field of human resources and organization development. Her career previously included positions at General Electric, General Motors and Ford Motor Co. Immediately before joining American House, Anderson was the executive human resources director, global markets and mobility, at Ford.

Anderson has an undergraduate degree in business and a master’s degree in human resources and labor relations from Michigan State University. She also is certified in multiple self-insight tools.

Watercrest Senior Living Group promotes Kim Sviben to area director of operations

Kim Sviben has been promoted to the role of area director of operations at Vero Beach, FL-based Watercrest Senior Living Group as the company continues its expansion in the Southeast.

Sviben joined Watercrest in 2017 as resident wellness director and in 2019 was promoted to executive director of Pelican Landing, an assisted living and memory care community in Sebastian, FL.

Under her leadership, Sviben and her team accomplished 100% occupancy twice and established a strong community presence, securing Pelican Landing’s being named “Best Assisted Living Community” for two consecutive years by a local publication. Pelican Landing also has achieved certification as a Great Place to Work four years in a row.

Graceworks Lutheran Services welcomes Timothy Fisher as director of development

In his new role, he will oversee all fundraising and planned giving initiatives, working closely with individual donors and community supporters to advance Graceworks’ mission and values.

Fisher began his career in nonprofits at Cedarville University, Cedarville, OH, before he started working in planned giving at Westerville, OH-based Ohio Living. Most recently, he was the director of individual and planned giving at the Arthritis Foundation for 16 years.

Fisher has an undergraduate degree in communications and business from Cedarville University and an MBA from Wright State University, Dayton, OH.

Morningside Place appoints Dave Norton executive director

Dave Norton has been named executive director of Morningside Place, a memory care community operated by Anthem Memory Care in Overland Park, KS. He will oversee all care, operations and programming. 

Norton previously was administrator / executive director of Rolling Hills Health & Rehab in Topeka, KS. His career includes two decades of managerial experience in the medical equipment and diagnostics fields.

A graduate of the University of Kansas, Norton is a licensed respiratory therapist as well as a licensed nursing home administrator.

Cloverwood Senior Living welcomes Richard Finn as executive director

Richard Finn has joined Cloverwood Senior Living in Pittsford, NY, as the independent living community’s new executive director. The community is part of Friendly Senior Living.

Finn has more than 35 years of leadership experience in both the hospitality and senior living realms throughout the country, including training in operations management and customer service by the Walt Disney Co.

As executive director, he is responsible for the successful operation of Cloverwood’s programs and services.

Finn graduated from the Rochester Institute of Technology with Bachelor of Science and Masters of Business Administration degrees.

Heartis Suwanee has new executive director, Drew Williams

Drew Williams has been hired by Frontier Management to be executive director of Heartis Suwanee, a Caddis independent living, assisted living and memory care community in Suwanee, GA. Under his leadership, the team plans to drive occupancy and cultivate a positive community culture.

Before joining Heartis Suwanee, Williams was executive director at an Alpharetta, GA, community, where he was able to mitigate the consequences of the pandemic for residents, ensuring that zero COVID-19 cases appeared during his tenure. He also previously has worked as an executive director in senior living communities in Atlanta and Phoenix.

Lantern Hill names Brian Cassidy sales director

Brian Cassidy has been named director of sales at Lantern Hill, an Erickson Living-managed retirement community in New Providence, NJ. He brings more than eight years of sales experience to the position.

For the past six years, Cassidy moved from an associate to senior associate then sales manager at Cedar Crest, a sister Erickson Living community in Pompton Plains, NJ. He had started his career with Erickson there as a freshman in high school, when he was a student server in one of the on-site restaurants. From there, he worked as a peer trainer and supervisor at the community. He then spent a few years working in other industries.

Cassidy has a Bachelor of Arts degree in communication from William Paterson University, Wayne, NJ.

Landis adds two to home- and community-based services board

In her position as the CEO of Delight by Design, she helps clients leverage mergers and acquisitions and partner technologies to integrate telehealth, care coordination and family engagement solutions. She also consults for Nexus Insights, founded by National Investment Center for Seniors Housing & Care co-founder and strategic adviser Bob Kramer.

RCare sees Myron Kowal retire as Jeffrey Knauss acquires business
