MIDSAYAP, North Cotabato: A total of 8,596 indigent senior citizens received P1,500 each or P500 for every month of the second quarter of this year from the Department of Social Welfare and Development and the city government of Kidapawan. About P25.7 million was the total fund given to the senior-citizen beneficiaries on May 18-21, 2021, according to data from the City Social Welfare Development Office (CSWDO). Senior citizens from Barangay Poblacion, Kidapawan City, had the most number of beneficiaries at 1,703. They were those who did not receive any monthly financial assistance from the Government Service Insurance System or the Social Security System. Officials from the CSWDO and the city treasurer’s office personally went to the barangay (villages) to distribute the social pension, which aimed to prevent the senior citizens from going outside where they might contract Covid-19. The Kidapawan police provided security to employees who dispersed the financial aid. The CSWDO is set to give the same cash assistance to 629 more senior citizens who were not able to receive the social pension next month or when the general community quarantine in the entire province ends.
