Acting Boston Mayor Kim Janey is planning to sign a proposed city ordinance next week that would put limits on how police use tear gas and other crowd-control techniques.
– The Boston City Council wants to limit what police can do to control crowds during protests. The proposal limits the use of tear gas and pepper spray by police when there are demonstrations of more than 10 people. The council passed a similar proposal last December, which was vetoed by then-mayor Marty Walsh. Acting mayor Kim Janey voted for the restriction in December and would need to sign the proposal into law.
