Advocate Aurora Enterprises has acquired home care company Senior Helpers for an undisclosed amount. While Senior Helpers is not a hospice provider, the company does provide end-of-life support services that work in tandem with hospices to offer an additional layer of assistance to patients.

Advocate Aurora Enterprises is a subsidiary of Advocate Aurora Health, one of the nation’s largest health systems. Advocate purchased Senior Helpers from Altaris Capital, a private equity firm which acquired the company for $125 million in 2016.

“The need for high-quality, in-home senior care has never been greater. We see all sorts of opportunities to enhance our suite of senior services as part of Advocate Aurora Enterprises’ portfolio because we share many of the same core values,” Senior Helpers CEO Peter Ross said.

Senior Helpers operates internationally with 320 locations, including franchises, in the United States, Canada and Australia, providing a range of services that includes personal care, disease-specific support for seniors with serious or chronic conditions and programs to address social determinants of health such as meals and transportation. The company’s U.S. footprint stretches across 44 states. Its current executive team will remain in place following the acquisition.

Advocate Aurora Health established the Advocate Aurora Enterprises subsidiary last month to spearhead investment in health and wellness companies. The subsidiary recently led a Series C funding round of more than $25 million for Foodsmart, a personalized telenutrition provider.

The subsidiary bases its investment strategy on three pillars: allowing seniors to age in place, supporting child and family health and wellness and assistance with individual’s mind, body and fitness goals. Senior Helpers marks the company’s second acquisition.

“One of our top priorities is to invest in companies that help people age well, and Senior Helpers fits that strategy perfectly,” said Advocate Aurora Enterprises President Scott Powder. “This deal capitalizes on our organizations’ shared commitment to helping seniors thrive independently, comfortably, and affordably in their homes and our shared vision of the home as the care delivery venue of the future.”
