DOOR COUNTY – Score another win for Door County.

The peninsula was voted as one of the top 12 fall vacation destinations for seniors in the U.S. in a survey of baby boomers conducted by the AARP Travel Center.

The survey asked 1,000 travelers ages 45 and older to recommend favorite sites to view spectacular fall foliage. A blog announcing the results on the AARP Travel Center website highlighted special seasonal attractions along with the colors for each location.

In recognizing Door County, writer Chloe Mulliner not only acknowledged the colors but also noted two popular, long-running autumn festivals: Pumpkin Patch in Egg Harbor (taking place Saturday and Sunday) and Fall Festival in Sister Bay (Oct. 18-20).

Mulliner also recommended picturesque, potentially fall color-laden drives along the Door County Coastal Byway (the State 42-57 loop from north of Sturgeon Bay to Northport and back, an official Wisconsin Scenic Byway) and Skyline Road through Peninsula State Park, as well as hikes through the park.

In a separate comment to the Door County Advocate, Mulliner said viewing the colors from a Door County boat or air tour were other special options.
